Late Medieval Town musicians - attributed to Albrecht Durer, in Sebastian Brant: Narrenschiff, 1494

Ad Hoc is a flexible group of musicians, specializing in the music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. From the Ad Hoc pool of talent, director Alan Salvin tailors made-to-measure ensembles for any event or concert.

Period costumes, authentic period instruments and strong presentation skills make Ad Hoc a dynamic addition to any event. The music might range from  the lively dances of the village fair, through the refined sensuality of the royal courts, to the serene contemplative music of the cloisters and cathedrals. Many listeners are surprised to find themselves tapping their feet to dance music that has the same energy and flavour as the jigs and reels of fiddle music, but spiced with the exotic scales and harmonies of ages past.

Ad Hoc ensembles have played at the National Arts Centre, Rideau Hall, the National Gallery, and other prestigious venues in the Ottawa-Hull area, as well as television and radio.

Alan Salvin is an award-winning composer, producer, and performer, and has directed numerous ensembles, including the pioneering early music ensemble Jubilus! An accomplished player of classical guitar, lute and early wind instruments, he has been a featured soloist on television, radio, recordings, and the concert stage.
